I know that many of my friends use BlackBerry phones so they’d want to know this. QIK has an alpha version available for BlackBerry. I don’t have a BlackBerry so if anyone tries this please comment on how it works. Alpha software is typically full of bugs, but it could work fine.
Testing
i tired to get it to work with my 8110 pearl yesterday. qik alpha requires bb firmware v.4.5, and i couldn’t get my firmware successfully upgraded. i did, however, get the qik software downloaded and installed – it just won’t connect to qik servers yet.
more later when i have time to troubleshoot.
or if you have success pushing firmware upgrade to your device, please post a quick report on your device and procedure.
Installed it on my BB 8320 Curve. A couple of times. Works okay, but there seems to be a tiny quirk in getting it to upload – after you finish and stop recording, immediately give the cursor ball a little spin to the left. If you see the qik entry screen reappear (vs. remaining in the video camera interface), you’ll know that it’s uploading.
Also, beware of it abruptly stopping and uploading after a second or to – for some reason it will jump back to the entry screen on its own on occasion.
Mind that this is in a remote location using EVDO/1XEV connection. Might be a little faster on the draw in a better-served location in town.
Not sure the spin to the left is really required. Sometimes it works okay without, but there seemed to be a perhaps-coincidental correlation between moving the cursor ball and getting the entry screen to reappear, vs. not doing so and staying stuck in the camera interface with the video never being hoovered up into qik.
